CBD and Stress

Though cannabis has been used by humans for thousands of years, it is sadly ironic that the study of its potential medical and therapeutic effects is still as yet in its infancy. Thankfully that is changing rapidly, and the current wave of legal, political and social tolerance surrounding the plant and its component ingredients is now allowing us to fully explore its potential.

“Evidence points towards a calming effect for CBD in the central nervous system,” the authors of the study state at the outset.

Cannabis has long been associated with stress relief, and among all of the cannabinoids contained in the plant CBD has taken on the greatest association with its ability to calm our jangled nerves. A 2019 case study sponsored by Kaiser Permanente and done in conjunction with the University of Colorado and Colorado State University highlighted CBD’s abilities to help stress reduction, while also underscoring the need for further research.
“Evidence points towards a calming effect for CBD in the central nervous system,” the authors of the study state at the outset. Though the direct internal mechanism of action that CBD exerts on the human body has yet to be fully charted, it is clear from past studies that it seems to exert some effect on our serotonin receptors and CB1 receptors. Chief among those effects are CBD’s antidepressant and anxiolytic (or anti-stress) qualities—lowering blood pressure, increasing the duration of sleep and decreasing cortisol levels in our blood stream.

One point highlighted in this study that is echoed by anecdotal reports from loyal Stigma customers is the relative ease of consuming CBD—perhaps through the use of Stigma’s CBD oils or Gel Caps– to attain its stress reducing benefits. The mildly sedating effect of the compound is often so mild as to be nearly transparent and tends to disappear completely with regular dosing. And though you may stop noticing CBDs outward effect, that certainly does not mean it is no longer working, but instead its benefits to the nervous system continue on internally and unabated.
